Thank you.
Being an artist, I selected the name because of it's associations with the visual arts. "contrapposto" means "counterpose", in Italian. It is used to describe a type of pose found originally in classical Greek and Roman sculpture and later reintroduced by artists such as Raphael, Da Vinci, and Michelangelo during the Italian Renaissance. Visually described, a sculpture or painting, showing the subject in this stance, presents the subject with its shoulders and arms off-axis from the hips and legs, with most of their weight on one foot. It suggests balance however it can be used to express an array of feelings or circumstances. While it can be calm and relaxed, it can also be tense or volitile.
The name also jives nicely with the overall classical theme of Freethought Forum, the first board I ever signed up with.
