Oh, that rocks!

Dionysus 25th October 2013 03:43 PM

It is beautiful yet somehow I find the presence of the mantis irksome - I think because it rudely disrupts the fractal 'symmetry' of those shoots.

Anonymous 25th October 2013 03:57 PM

But, but, but....mantis riding a motorcycle.

Dionysus 25th October 2013 04:17 PM

Fffuckit I so didn't see that! Lolz, getting way too linear :disturbed:

borealis 25th October 2013 05:16 PM

Also there are about a million lovely photos of fern fiddleheads out there, every photographer has some. Catching the mantis must have been an outrageously lucky shot, unless it's shopped.

While we're on - what am I not seeing in

http://twistedsifter.files.wordpress...drain-sink.jpg

? I could knock one of those out in a minute. Well, I could if I ever washed up that is :D

Eta: I mean, it's a bit like an eye but ...

Dionysus 25th October 2013 05:41 PM

But favourite is without doubt

http://twistedsifter.files.wordpress...hurskainen.jpg

although I think that's artfully staged and not serendipitous in keeping with the theme.

I think it's the eye thingie.

And, I liked the woman on the beach quite a bit, too.

I saw this photo a couple years ago, with an explanation. It is soapy water draining out of a stainless steel sink.

ETA: When it was first posted it was always much smaller, and the illusion therefore much more convincing.

Yes, I liked that one as well.

One thing that bothers me about a lot of these pics is that I cannot tell how much of it is photoshoppery. There are good effects that can be managed with photoshop, but eventually it begins to feel overmanipulated and trite.

I also find quite a few of them to be gimmicky, like all the pretty play with placement of the moon, for example. Yes, they are kind of neat, but to me they aren't great photos.

A great photo (imv) would be one where the photographer's eye is not so distanced from the final product.

Not one of that fifty would end up on my wall. Several of the pics shown right on MR by George, Dionysus, and the others would be welcome because they are worth looking at every day, not just once.

Found as 'scumbag leaf -flirts with you - leaves' but before it became a joke, perfect example of autumn photo for weekly themed imo.

Like it :)

leaf is likely from shrub known as 'Burning Bush'.

Though there are wild viburnums in my backyard with very similar leaves of that hue.

Doesn't look real. But they are immensely powerful animals.
