Send a bit of heat our way. We're still getting -2 and frost warnings at night, and average highs of 15 and cold winds by day.

We get really long warm dry autumns to compensate. Spring is cold because it takes the North Atlantic a very long time to warm up, then in fall, a very long time to cool down. Our house is not much more than a km from the coast through the woods - we can often hear the surf. It's a few degrees warmer in town and inland.

Will take a few years for it to pay for itself, but the current unit is costing you more due to inefficiency, so, replace as soon as you have the money, rather than awaiting a complete failure. hth

This is not true. The unit I have is 23 years old, with a SEER rating of 12. Since I keep up with cleaning, filters and maintenance for all of it's 23 years, it is still pretty efficient.

Units with SEER ratings over 14 have a lifespan of 10 to 12 years, due to the way they multi stage cycle in order to save energy. Most projections of savings use a 12 month year, but the A/C is used for 6 months of the year. My current electric bill in the summer never tops $130.00. A month without heat or A/C is $60.00. The most I could expect to save a year would be $30.00 x 6 months or 180 a year. New units installed cost a minimum of $6,000.

So, it would take 33 years for the savings from a new unit to pay for itself, during which time I would have to replace the unit 3 times.

I have a Copeland scroll compressor.

The multi stage cycling of the newer high efficiency units uses rotary compressors like Bristol. This is where the shortened life comes in.

So no. This is hype.

I'm tellin' ya, y'all need to eat bananas > not the skin, just the inside part, preferably in icy fruit smoothies. But careful not to get a brain-freeze, 'cause if you freeze your brain you could die.
Maybe not all of you, not all at once.

I can't believe you guys have been getting such cold weather. I heard there was snow in NF I think? during the weekend. It's been over 28 degrees the past week, if not more. It's sweltering.

I nearly keeled over today after rushing home from a walk because a lady from kijiji who wanted to purchase a bassinet that I had, arrived early. We were supposed to meet at 3pm, but she got here for 1:50pm instead, and acted inconvenienced when I rushed back and got there for 2:10pm. Said she had been waiting for 30 minutes. Then she managed to haggle me down to sell it for next to nothing. I needed to get rid of it anyway.

Main point is, it took a good hour for me to actually cool down. It's too hot to be doing exercise outside. I'm surprised that it seemed to literally go from winter (under 5 degrees) to summer (above 20). Seems we skipped spring.

Forecast highs next week are 11 to 17.

yeh, poor Nfld has been having horrible weather, snow and cold. Here it's been normal spring except the past 2 days. It's been really hot in NB, 30+ inland. Lots of new records.
