On this forum, adding new photos is just a case of getting someone's attention via the Nominate sticky thread in the original artwork forum. Nobody has nominated anything since 2016. Self-nomination was a thing when it was active, I think. It certainly should be!

Why the thread is inactive now? Probably lots of reasons, but I don't think a lack of appreciation for photography and other visual arts is one of them.

It's tough, but worth doing. We ALL love photos...facebook showed a few changes to the industry of looking at photos, but we are special, so should be able to have something different.

Maybe we should have a feature like 'likes', for photos, which automagically places them in a queue (said queue then rotates through a slideshow to piss off those with bandwidth limitations)

Not going to lie. I have no idea how to implement something like that in a forum. Like/thank/yay type features don't talk at all to gallery features on the level of triggering a thing to happen.

Functionalty to like a post containing a photo is trivial. Cycling randomly through a gallery is pretty trivial. Having them talk to each other and having one drive the other is not at all trivial, and probably far beyond my understanding of the technologies involved under the hood of forum apps.

Basically, your fantastic ideas for new functionality are crippled by my outdated tech skills, available time, and above all, my willingness to devote possibly weeks working on something I fear I won't be able to make happen.

I never use the portal

I also prefer not to see huge photos fill up my screen when at work - I only see them when I mark all posts as read, then quickly click new posts just to get rid of it.

Oh... you know on Elkarte how one can squish down the top bit to hid the rat logo? Is that possible on phpbb? Elkarte wins out by miles for screen neatness.

I'm about 90% certain that's not an option in the base functionality. I'll check around for an add-on.
