then you might invite the east to change by the insignificant 30 mins.

I mean wtf? Really the British invented time so there's only GMT anyway.

And let's not forget Eucla, WA.

Eucla and the surrounding area, notablyMundrabilla*and*Madura, use the Central Western Time Zone of*UTC+8:45. Although it has no official sanction, it is universally observed in this area, stopping just to the east of*Caiguna.

Yabut that 1/2 hour is really cute! The only place I've been to that has a half shift. I get a 'webpage not available' for the link but would love to see the in-depth research resulting in the conclusion of a half billion loss directly attributable to it.
Newfoundland has a half hour shift. I have probably heard, on radio and television, thousands and thousands of times in the mellifluous intonations of a hundred different announcers:

"And half an hour later in Newfoundland".

I think Central Standard Time in South Australia and the Northern Territory should move to a full hour behind EST. It would make scheduling much easier than the 1/2 hour for e.g. the airlines and would mean SA would be on the same timezone as QLD when it has daylight saving on and the banana benders don't.

Markets care.

What does this even mean? What markets feature in a farmer's schedule during April?

Just admit you're wrong and that you've chosen to believe in a lie.

It doesn't. In fact Farmers in the US protested it mightily. It actually was first called War Time, and was to save fuel and energy during WWI, and started in Europe and Great Britain. And then we all did it again during WWII.

After the war though in the US different states and even cities decided on their own whether to keep following it or not.

This made the guys running the Trains very upset, because some states had five or six cities following it, and the country counties NOT following it, because well, farmers didn't like it.

So the Railroad and Industry Barons Paid Congress to make it a Federal thing, just like in any well run democracy.

How the rest of you got stuck with it I have no idea.

Why the hell it became "it was for farmers" when they were the most vocal group against it is beyond me.

It is late spring. The sun rises at 7, the markets open at 9.

The clocks go forward. The sun rises at 6, the markets open at 9.

So confusing. So undemocratic. So, umm, 20th century market economics driving policy. So, umm, what?

I don't even think the markets actually have hours now. I mean it Appears that they do, they say they do, but really, if a ping of 126 milliseconds is too LONG for some trading software, wtf do the Hours of Operation even matter?

well, there is no standard market for strawberry futures, true

However, you could buy stock in Sharp
http://www.bloomberg.com/bw/articles...wberry-farming

Or an individual ag contract

And strawberry futures might be coming soon
http://www.agmrc.org/commodities__pr...berry-profile

Especially with new strawberry picking robots:
http://www.cnet.com/news/50000-straw...sale-in-japan

PS. Yes, I picked strawberries in Northern Florida, and it sucked. Back breaking work. Much rather pick oranges, even with the spiders and snakes...oh my...

PSS. We have a Strawberry festival even:
http://www.strawberryfestival.com

It features gunslingers = p
