This building has no warmth, cosy invitation or sense of historic human literary and academic history in it at all.

Pondering on whether that could stand as an objective observation, or really is as negative as it feels on my first impression.

That is absolutely descriptive of my reaction to it.

If you find shopping malls 'inviting', or you like your culture wrapped in consumerist bling, it's perfect!

Repetition is very effective at that. You could maybe try some alliteration too, next time around. Ftr: alliterative triplets does not mean bouncing baby boys.

Lol copyright.

I knew a guy who made his living writing music for advertising jingles.

Who knew you could do that?

90% of the stuff I write is either silly or a potential jingle. But, I agree with Chesterton's thesis in Utopia of Usurers and Other Essays (not that I'd consider my stuff 'art' but the principle see, and anyway, who am I judge the artistic merit of what I do? Besides, it's nicer to think I boycotted them than that they wouldn't touch me with someone else's bargepole.)

i wasn't really thinking of artistic merit. I was thinking that for decades now most advertising music is recycled relatively well-known pop/rock/country, rights purchased, and tailored to evoke whatever, nostalgia, sex, happiness.

But this guy was able to make a decent living writing jingles for local businesses, car dealers, taxi companies, dry cleaners. There's a taxi number jingle he wrote - I can remember the damn thing, phone number and all, after 25 years.

Can't ever quite forget Spike Milligan's jingle for the spoof 'Threadgold's Thoroughgrip GarterettesTM'.

Quote:
A peer was stalking a roebuck
In a misty Scottish glen.
BANG! went his well-charged rifle.
A miss, then BANG! again.

"TWO misses", roared his lordship,
as his stockings trailed in the wet,
"Serves me right for not wearing
a Thoroughgrip Garterette".
