Stand Still, Stay Silent

I'm really enjoying this webcomic

http://www.sssscomic.com/comic.php?page=1

The author/artist is a young Finnish Swedish woman. The 'About' page has a good intro to the story, a post apocalyptic tale that starts during a plague, then picks up ninety years later.

http://sssscomic.com/index.php?id=about

The prologue is quite long and a bit slow in spots, but the story begins moving faster after that.

The art is really good. This artist loves detailed pen and wash landscapes in a few colours - lots of blue and orange. She includes lots of maps, blueprints, and a lot of detail in each drawing. The characters are... you should just give it a chance.

i'm about to start reading her first story, A Redtail's Dream

Quote:
A Redtail's Dream" is a webcomic about a young man and his shapeshifting dog on an involuntary journey on the other side of the Bird's Path in the realm of dreams. They have to rescue their fellow Villagers before their souls pass on to Tuonela, the land of eternal sleep.

Yes, I figured that. The whole Swedish-speaking thing is a sensitive topic for (I understand) a lot of Finns. Might be something to do with having been ruled by Sweden but I don't know. I'm too afraid to ask one of the bitter Finns that I know!

ETA I asked a non-bitter Finn that I know. The response: oh that would be a west coast Finn. Tossers!

I've only ever met three Finns in my life. Only one of them was bitter... maybe... it was hard to tell, since he mostly locked himself in his studio painting large German Shepherds in wheat fields and looking angry. The other two were quite cheerful. Maybe because there were no Swedes around?

I've reached page 23 and find I am warming to Michael Madsen who hates his boss and is perhaps a bit too arrogant.

-As far as he knows this is is just a normal, fun little family vacation with his parents and his favourite aunts and uncle... ... not an escape from the inevitable collapse of society.

- Funny, I was led to believe that too.

Aaand the story just jumped ahead 90 years and any attachment I'd developed to a specific character has been kilt off

MR needs a thread about webcomics in general.

It was on theorama, not here. Pretty sure.

(And there was one still earlier at OL, but maybe that place shouldn't be mentioned.)

Ok maybe later this week I'll start one if someone else doesn't do it first.

There's not much edumacatin' to do. I just picture people recommending their favourites and maybe occasionally chatting about current plot developments.
