Well, that's not how it's used, and use=meaning so....

I think Steve Wright single-handedly shifted the meaning of factoid in the uk.

I was born in a highly steampunkish northern mill town where the primary industry used to be cotton weaving in dark satanic sheds. The noise levels caused mainly by high velocity steel tipped wooden shuttles slamming into the stops were appallingly bad for the auditory system. Consequently everyone was deaf and there was a general wisdom that you should never bad-mouth someone in the the pub because everyone can lip read. True factoid.

Indeed, that is where I got it from. I used to listen regularly, and even won the Big Quiz twice.

the irony of this inability to articulate ...and I just know you appreciate it too ...

Language and technology ...something so fundamentally intrinsic, and something so designed .. A wholly sound and profound juxtaposition.

So funny... when I was an art college student, we were just a scant decade away from the explosion of personal computers. The college was full of old technologies for graphic design, printmaking, photography. Mechanical drawing aids, drafting tools, etc., we were taught to use all these machines and templates and tools.

And within a very few years, my graduating cohort would have to scramble to learn, mostly on our own, how to use an entire range of hardware and software to perform the work we'd been taught to do.

Was a bit hectic for a while.

When I was just small I went to the Tower of London and there lies a suit of armour made for Henry VIII

Spoiler

Looks impressive from this angle when one is small and he was supposed to be a big man for the time but relatively tiny now. Anyway, when you see the diminutive yet pugnacious metal man and his huge steel codpiece as an adult you have to wonder if it didn't cause the opposition to die laughing rather than 'fright the souls of fearful adversaries'.

I read that the cloth versions of codpieces often contained pockets in which to keep small valuables, hence 'family jewels'.

I'm skeptical of that. Always thought 'family jewels' was a clear and unambiguous analogy between valuable heirlooms handed down through the generations and external male 'adornments' being the visible sites of heredity.
