We piss on jelly fish stings here....but I think we learned that from those facking Hawaiians.

the location of the jellyfish is known, so precautions can be taken

a bullshark is much scarier than a great white and much more likely to kill you
(NB I don't know it's a bullshark but the last fatality at Ballina a few years back was caused by a bullshark)
well, scrap the bull shark theory...the shark took the back half of the surf board both the man's legs. As the experts say, there are not a lot of sharks that can do that

great whites are not typically up in that area in the warmer weather, but it is sounding likely to be one (alternative is a very large tiger shark)

Hey Adrian, you wanna get in?

The job took 35 minutes, in about 20 metres of water and without much to see.

But for the men, who work for commercial diving company Harbourworks, it was just another day on the tools.
That. Is. Bad. Ass.

Back to birds.

Here's a whole shedload of photos I took while on a course. I took two batteries, and no charger for 8 days. Made it with two bars to spare.

Our base for the week. Centre for Carbon, Food and Water.

EucFACE

Cute little spider. Seems to be eating pollen.

A sparrowhawk that killed a crested pigeon just out of decent range for the 75-300.

Yellow tailed black cockatoo at EucFACE.

A Bell Miner. Rowdy little sods.

Scarlet rumped parrots.

Best shot I got of this little fellow. Didn't want to be photographed.

Lovely pics!

I got a bird feeding station for Christmas and have set it up on the front patio outside my kitchen window. Just blue tits, great tits, a willow tit, robin and blackbirds so far. Although I think I saw a chaffinch couple checking it out the other day.

Nice - and willow tits don't seem to be that common these days - not seen one in an age.

Eta: RSPB has it on red list so good for your bird table!

heh. That's more likely that I am just misidentifying it then. I thought it was a coal tit initially, but they seem to have a tufty head. It does look like a willow tit though, although it's usually more of a blur!

they are getting more used to it being close to the house, so I hope that I will be able to open the kitchen window and get some pics
