Concert ticket prices

It's been a good few years since I went to a concert, and my teenage daughter wants to see Imagine Dragons. The cheapest tickets are $150.

Yeah shitty bands charge an assload

I saw Incubus last year for $20, seeing Crystal Method twice this year for $25 each show, Godspeed You in a week for $20, saw QOTSA/Royal Blood last month for $25... Just don't go to the big arena shows.

Since your thinking of spending $300 (she can't go by herself),
consider letting her buy her choice of $150 (or less) of music.

Decent bands have likely made many free videos worth watching.

Add to that some audios of screeching howler monkeys, etc.
to simulate the vibe of concert attendance.

Yeah man new album September 28 - pushed back from August which was what Kirkland announced at the Cleveland concert. Real bummer cuz the Rochester concert is the 22nd and I was hoping to digest the album before seeing him again.

Ken Jordan retired from music about a year ago which sucks but Kirkland is holding it down still. Stoked to go again.

I'm sure she has Spotify, Pandora or Tidal. The only people that still buy albums are ye olden folk and fanatics like myself

Hell, some concerts I go to they're not even selling their CDs. Some releases don't even get hard presses anymore... Digital only, sad.

Oh and PH if you haven't listened to it yet do yourself a favor and grab their last release - self titled, probably their best album since the Vegas debut

She does most of her music on YouTube on her phone. Do kids even do MP3 players anymore? Decent speakers? What's the preferred way to listen to music and have it sound good these days?

Well the preferred way is to have good speakers and a high-res player. I use a Sony Walkman personally. Great for the price point, had it 3 years now with no issues which is phenomenal for mp3 players in my experience

But no sadly most of them just play YouTube or Spotify and when you try to talk about fidelity they say "no it's the high-quality stream! 1080p!" Like that matters a damn bit about the heavily downsampled audio in the file that actually gets used to stream. You ain't getting a 50MB FLAC off Spotify's servers, homie

I asked mom to pay for the tickets since she's the one who brought it up, and I just got caught up on 6 months worth of child support.

Oh, the venue is actually sold out, that price is from a scalper. I didn't realize LiveNation was in the reseller market. No idea what they cost originally.

Lol LiveNation reselling their own tickets that's... that's just sad but totally not outside of how I feel about them. Scummy as fuck.

Suggest maybe instead of seeing Imagine Dragons, idk, Imagine Seeing A Better Band like Royal Blood. They're hot on the radio right now, and they actually make good songs.

By the by they put on damn near as good a show as QOTSA, at the end of the set the singer/bassist was playing his bass with the drummer's drumstick, perched on the drum set and smashing the cymbols between bass notes. It was fucking amazing.

Just saw Canadian post-rock musicians Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Jessica Moss on Wednesday. Moss was absolutely mind-blowing, creating violin symphonies using just a looper pedal and occasionally her voice. Really good shit, look forward to seeing her again

Godspeed was amazing as well. They put on the kind of metal show I wanted out of Tool. It was heavy, complex, apocalyptic and unrelenting. I spent half the show with my fist in the air. Truly great.

I'm glad we didn't go. The singer was sick so had the audience do a lot of the singing. My daughter would have had a blast, but I would have felt really ripped off.
