Don't you have seals, killer whales and polar bears?
No polar bears for a thousand km. or so, seals might bite, killer whales only kill humans if they are driven mad in captivity.

It's the coyote-wolves that'll getcha.

Too north, I reckon. Brown bears are more Northern US/Southern Canada.

Too east. (Can't get much farther south than NS within Canada.)

Yeah black bears can rip you apart, but most of them don't know that they can rip you apart, so they're easily scared off.

(Although there was a case just a couple of years ago out west, where a black bear straight out of hibernation decided "goddammit I'm hungry enough to eat a human" and did so.)

I've read NS black bears are particularly shy of humans, way less dangerous than in Ontario for instance, but no idea why.

Cat talk (sorry msg):

I bought a new bathmat a while back, and the cat's fallen in love with it. He never bothered with the others I've had. He's asleep on it right now and is dreaming and making weird human-like noises.

He's recently discovered a new toy: the woodpile. It's stacked the same as I've done it for several years now, a three sided square fortress of wood with the fourth side open. There's a huge black tarp over the top of it, bungie-corded to the pallets. Now it's colder and often wetter outdoors, Tommy likes to hang out in the open space, and climb on top of the wood under the tarp - there are places a cat can fit between chunks of firewood.

But the funniest bit: the tarp sags downward towards the open side. Tommy's discovered he can slide down it. He gets up on the highest part of the woodpile and launches himself into the unsupported slope of tarp, sliding on his belly like an otter until he's able to jump off the edge. Then he climbs up and does it again.

I have never seen a cat do recreational sliding before.

That Is One Happy Cat

Where's that 'It's so beautiful I could cry,' icon.

I was at an Amnesty Internation Stall collecting signatures for petitions to free political prisoners.
Talking to the lady/mate on the stall with me about how my Luna cat was so shy and weirded out by humans when I got her from the Cat Rescue place that she would freak if I put my (big) head anywhere hear hers.

Now she sits on the back of my chair expecting scratches and leans her head on mine and starts snoring.

My AI partner is a cat person as well, she was almost crying with the happy stories.
