Can also be meta - someone's play seems different enough to what you're used to seeing from them that you get a feeling they are hiding something, or equivocating. Their behaviour 'pings'.

'Lynch all liars' is a standard bit of mafia lingo also. Town players have no reason to lie about their alignment or their actions. Scum have every reason to lie about their alignment and their actions. If you catch a player telling a lie in game, they are most likely scum. Lynch them.

"This pings" is just an indication that the person thinks something is off about a post. Sometimes it's obvious why someone thinks the post pings. Sometimes not.

As was drummed into me in one of my first games, "wrong" does not equate to "liar". So, a false statement has to be weighed in that light, too. Also, town players may be less careful about fact-checking than scum, and for that reason sometimes say wrong stuff.

In other words, while "Lynch all Liars" is a good rule of thumb, it's not a fool-proof ticket to lynching scum.

ETA is 'edited to add' which is a tongue-in-cheek thing given the no-edits rule

sometimes people post a correction in a new post and write eta to indicate they're correcting something in their previous post.

it's also often tongue in cheek.

There is also white knighting and grooming. Both of these are also objective tells. White knighting is a defense of a scum player by another player to try and move the lynch. Grooming is usually scum on town trying to gain favor by looking supportive of another players ideas.

Doesn't whiteknighting also include scum defending a town player to try to divert attention from themselves?

That is how I see it first.

bussing - from the phrase, throwing under the bus. It's a scum tactic by which they will go after a scum buddy and push for their lynch for the purposes of making themselves look townie.

"town" vs "the town"

This is a regional dialect thing. I've seen at least one player who came under suspicion for saying "the town" instead of "town". It sounded forced to the ears of players who weren't used to the phrase. he was lynched iirc.

Wow. Xenophobia as revealed in mafia lynching patterns. Someone do a study!

No need. It was surely just a run-of-the-mill incident with a shit-for-brains ;]

Flavour. The theme of the game, if there is one. Characters and story lines and whatnot.

I'm a slut for flavour, and it sometimes goes right, and it sometimes goes very, very wrong.

Amok, you would have loved the Dark Shadows game Ob's running at TR now. Tons of flavour! You don't need to be a TR member to view the games, either, they are public. You should go take a look at it.

Here's Day 1, they're on Day 3. Just check out the OPs to get an idea of the flavour going on.

Hm. I must be missing something. It says Day 1, but it starts with two deaths and people quoting people. Were there posts removed?
