It reminds me that Einstein needs the speed of light to be constant, otherwise his fantasy calculations don't work.

Opps, we have found the speed of light is not a constant!

Homer has a new nickname. It is Key. Short for Monkey. He has learned to do many things with his paws. Not all are good.

He met a racoon through the window screen. It was going for his food. He was appalled at it's odor. And a bit of cat panic with hissing and general freaking out. Has shown no inclination to go outside since the encounter.

Window next to his cat food table is now closed, so he can eat in peace. But he is still suspicious.

As liquid urine is denser than the atmosphere, why yes. The urine stream from Putin's penis splashing on Trump's sphincter is easily described with buoyancy, no need for the magical force that no one can explain what it is.

The key of the exercise is to determine your degree/size based on two empirically provable earth-objects. These would obviously be taken as near-simultaneously as possible, thus any change in the atmosphere would be negligible.

Once you have a comparison ratio you can apply that to the sun at any given position.

It's a constant.

lol. You don't know what "denser" means, do you?

But ok. The effect of atmospheric refraction: When the sun is viewed near the horizon, there's typically a little bit of a flattening effect, so it doesn't look perfectly round.

Specifically, the observable vertical angular diameter (of the sun near the horizon) is affected by atmospheric refraction -- and the exact amount by which it is distorted varies with atmospheric conditions. But the horizontal angular diameter remains constant. It remains the same as the angular diameter that the sun has when near the zenith.

And since the horizontal angular diameter is very nearly unaffected by the atmosphere, that's the measure that makes sense to compare from one place to another, so my argument remains essentially unchanged, with this one small clarification.

You know what else I failed to account for?

- the existence of pizza
- ongoing conflict in the middle east
- the inexplicable idiocy of pet food vendors in the Baltimore area

Maybe someone will show me how these oversights could mess up my analysis.

Every time I think you've reached your limit of stupid, you outdo yourself.

I didn't "use a flat surface" for anything. I showed that the distance to the sun is much greater than the (straight line) distance between any two points on the surface of the earth, regardless of what the actual shape of the earth is.

Consider your initial assumption is the size of the sun is the same everywhere all the time, this is not true.

Assumptions can not prove assumptions.

No, this is silly. Looking at the sun on the horizon is looking through much denser atmosphere than looking at the sun at noon. Not to mention the atmospheric conditions, say 3,000 miles apart, is typically different.

"Consider the angular diameter of the sun as viewed from anywhere on the earth."

You are assuming the sun appears to be the same size everywhere all the time.

No that's not what's being said there, Jerome. Because clearly the sun can't be at the same angle from every point on Earth simultaneously.

No, there is no such assumption there, unless you want to dishonestly read such an assumption into it.
