Finally tried mushrooms.

On one hand it was terrifying, on the other it was enlightening.

Sadly not, my friend suggested that we paint but I felt incapable of accomplishing much more than thinking.

She did this, though.

Next week, perhaps. I think I could handle it better on a second attempt.

You might try reducing the dose. Every time a friend has described a horrendous mushroom experience it turns out they took what I'd consider way too many.

Btw, was your friend trying to paint the ass end of a golden cow that just got shot by a high powered rifle?

Koh Samui (Thailand) 1989. My only experience with mushrooms.
I'd made friends with a couple of Swiss guys staying at the same beach huts. One day they invited me to join them for a mushroom omelette. The thai owner of our accommodation procured the mushrooms, which I never saw, and served up the omelette. We ate and then Danny said, lets go play in the water. We took a tennis ball and started larking around in the expanse of shallow water adjacent to our huts. Then the mushrooms hit me. I can barely remember the absolute perfection of the feeling. But all at once my senses became acute. The water sang in my ears as I submerged. My skin was alive with tiny prickles. The water splashed and cascaded in a symphony and sparkled like jewels.

It seemed to last an age but I have no idea how much time passed. It was amazing. I tried mushrooms just once more, in Indonesia on one of the tiny Gili islands. They simply didn't work.

If you do, super:
1. make sure your mushroom picker knows his mushrooms, bad mushrooms = tummy ache/nausea.
2. don't take too many, they vary in strength.
3. be in a pleasant safe environment, outdoors is best.
4. be prepared to be delighted.

I guess what you're saying here is 'make sure you know your mushroom picker' ?

Quote:
2. don't take too many, they vary in strength.
Idgi - then how are you going to know what the correct dose is?

Quote:
3. be in a pleasant safe environment, outdoors is best.
"Safe" I presume excludes roads, ski hills, bike trails, parapenting etc. Basically the middle of a flat field containing no livestock then?

I note MZ advocates "... larking around in the expanse of shallow water ...." for those hell-bent on the aquatic experience.

4. be prepared to be delighted.
Or psychotic?

Lol!

I am a very cautious person, and only do mushrooms once every several years. I've a friend who's a biologist and knows which mushrooms to pick - some idiots just grab fungus that's small and brown and hope it's the right ones. I've always had local ones in season, which here is Oct.-Nov.

Somewhere around a tablespoonful of loose dried mushrooms is likely a reasonable amount. In my experience.

Just somewhere rural is nice.

Psychotic is unlikely unless you don't heed 2.

Well you seem to have it sorted. I dunno, first it was Koan and her absinthe - I'm a two bottle a day man now - and then it's psilocybin shrooms. The MindRomp heading is becoming clear now - site should come with a health warning. Anyways, it's Saturday eve and I'm off down the pub - g'night

@Gonzo: I'm a bit shocked at the incongruity with your nick and avatar learning that this was the first time you ever did schrooms, dude.

@Dionysus and Super: Set and setting can't be stressed too much in using psyhcedelics, as Leary emphasized many years ago. And if you have never done any LSD or other psych-ds, then you should indeed start out with about half whatever constitutes a normal dose, though this varies widely.

Have your calender cleared for the rest of the day, and be in an environment where you feel relaxed, safe and secure. Best not to be expecting company who aren't also tripping. Interacting with any not experiencing what you are usually doesn't go or end well.

I remember in college when I first started experimenting with acid and morning glory seeds. Sometimes a group of us would go to a secluded little beach with one person not tripping to drive and handle any necessary interactions with others. Some incredible memories scuba diving on a reef not far off shore totally zonked. But even after literally thousands of various kinds of trips later, I still look back on the schrooms as the best by far.

I actually met a kind of psilocybin prophet in Acapulco way back in '68. He told me about this nirvana like mountain Mexican village where the magical schrooms were everywhere and beyond the interest of the federales. And it was for a while I learned later, but didn't pay attention then.

So it wasn't until '72 in a little hamlet 4 hours by bus north of Bogota, that I first tried schrooms and realized all I'd missed. There was a field overflowing with them and we ate as we picked after rinsing in a stream. I truly envy you both the experience that awaits you if it is anything like that was. Or the many later ones with the bag we took back to Bogota.

But I never again came across schrooms of that quality. In fact I never had much of a sample however, as they weren't popular in the states then and I just never came across them. Still hard to believe California is one of 3 states where spores are illegal, but such is life. Tripping is probably not a wise move for the elderly, anyway.

One of the things I found most amazing about psychedelics was that after a long period of not using them-and there were many-they somehow always seemed to take me back in time to my last trip. It would be pretty daunting to do so now, so much has changed since then.

So enjoy the best way I ever encountered in altering your reality while ya can boys. Do let us know how it goes, and consider that some good weed on hand can help smooth out any rough edges.

Hot damn.....I know a few good spots out of town here that'd be great!

I have no idea though how to be sure of the quality of shrooms though...

I haven't felt delighted in a bit so it'd be a welcome feeling no doubt!

Thanks for the weed tip! I haven't smoked weed in about 13 years or so....it's about high time I do something fun too!
