Rearranging the index page

We've been thinking about rearranging the index page to accentuate areas of greater topical interest, and to accommodate the new OP moderated subforum, Hobbies and Hobbyhorses, and it's satellite members only subforum.

I suggest we change the "Discussion and Debate" area title to simply "General Discussion", then move technology and sport to that area ... leaving Photography, Art, Literature and Media, and Food and Wine in the "Culture" area ... and we move Philosophy, and Religion into "Culture" and change the "Culture" title to "Culture, the Arts and Humanities"

I suggest that we make the entire "Culture, the Arts and Humanities"* area our new OP moderated area. We can subtitle it "Hobbies and Hobbyhorses" if we like ... or drop that part of the plan.

*Humanities

.

I like.

I'd like to make the original arts forum a top level forum instead of a subforum. and maybe add a public forum for people who want their original works to be google-searchable.

Yes, agree.

The public Original Arts on the index page, within the Culture, the Arts and Humanities area ... with the member's only Original Arts attached within the public one?

Maybe eventually. For now I think it would be better to give the most active forum some member exposure. The public forum will be all but empty at first, I think. maybe 2 threads could be moved there if the OPers wish.

The current "Art, Literature and Media" area could become separate "Music", "Literature" and "Film and Theatre" ... ?

Is there enough content right now to break the topics up?

What will the public see on the index page, in that case?

I want to set it up so that the forum is visible but the threads are invisible, with a subtitle indicating that registered members can see the threads.

Not sure .. but they might attract more individual attention if separated. If it'd make the index page look too busy, though, probably best left as is.

Okay .. where will the public one be, and how will guests know it exists?

I would be posting most, if not all of my creative contribution (when I get around to it) in the public one, btw.

I'm thinking two top level forums. Maybe the public one could be called The Gallery or Opening Night or something like that.

How about an informative invitational subtitle: Showcase your Shit ?

Just kidding /poor taste reference to certain unpleasant past contributions

Why not just move all the related threads from the current Original Arts and Art, Lit and Media to their respective new private and public subforums? It's just reorganising, not recategorising isn't it?

I guess. I'm just not sure FMM is aware of what we're discussing. Once the forums are set up I can send him a PM letting him know where his thread is.

I think we should probably remove the "moderated" option until we get the new forums created and arranged ..

ETA, at the moment, it's available pretty much board wide, and we've decided to limit it to one forum (the new "culture, the arts and humanities")

Culture, the Arts and Humanities

  • Original Arts Private Gallery
  • Original Arts Open Gallery
  • Music
  • Literature
  • Film and Theatre
  • Art and Architecture
  • Photography
  • Philosophy, Humanism and Ethics
  • Religion and Secularism
General Discussion
  • Science
  • Technology
  • Politics, News and Current Events
  • History
  • Sports
* It seems like something is missing - a place for discussing non-member paintings, sculptures, architecture, etc. with the proposed division of the A&E forum.

Does History fit better with Culture, Arts and Humanities or with General Discussion?
