But hair, like clothing, can actually keep you cool by shielding the body from solar rays.

Siamese coloring is actually caused by temperature differentiation.

Quote:
The color variation of the Siamese is a form of albinism.
It’s the result of a mutation in the TYR gene which produces an enzyme called tyrosinase. This enzyme is directly involved in the production of melanin and it's heat sensitive in its mutated form. While this enzyme does not react to normal body temperatures, it does develop darker in colder temperatures.
The coloring can almost be viewed as a heat map of the cat's body.

Almost, some coats can trap air near the body which keeps them cool, likewise, it can keep them warm, as in the polar bear.

9 lives, cats always land on their feet .. I can see how a 5 year old came to that conclusion.

Is this not true. I always believed this and then this taxi driver from the Middle East reaffirmed this by telling me that people tell him that all the time and how crazy it is. :v

Insulating is the thing, not shielding, I think.

Okay I looked:

Quote:
A Cat's Fur is its Air Conditioning System.
It is the layer of air next to a cat's body that helps keep it warm in winter and cool in summer. Preventing body-warmed air from escaping through the fur keeps a cat warm, and allowing fresh air to ventilate through the fur keeps a cat cool.

guys, do you even?

Animals grow undercoats in winter. Smaller shorter hairs under their summer coat. They also grow longer thicker outer coats. Then in spring, they do something called SHEDDING, and the extra hair falls out. The Length of the Hairs has nothing to do with the density of the coat...

Animals in Texas, particularly dairy cows, can have problems because sometimes they don't shed their winter coat fast enough to catch up to the heat.

Cats are crepuscular. I asked Homer. He is most active before dawn and after sunset, like any smart Texan. He naps in the middle of the night for a few hours and takes his main sleep during the day. Just like me !!

There's a lengthy sequence of those birds in David Attenborough's Life Of Birds. The female nicks into the hedge for a sneaky with an alternative male suitor. Her main squeeze gets cranky and pecks at her cloaca until she expels the blob of sperm from the sneaky. Then he takes his turn...
