The few Iain [M] Banks I haven't already read and currently on The Quarry written while he was dying. The closer I get to having read them all the slower I go. It's like a limited supply of Napoleonic brandy in the cellar and as it runs out I savour every last drop. Soon enough it will be gone and there won't be any more. I'm bereft.

1919 locked room mystery, Carolyn Wells, The Man Who Fell Through the Earth. Remarkably tongue in cheek so far. Detecting lawyer unaware his lady secretary is actually the one finding and interpreting all the 'clews'.

As a result, there is little place for a figure like Surkov whose instance that politics is a text (of which the audience is the author, rather than speechwriters or politicians) is ultimately dependent upon the exploitation of others’ ‘ideologies’. I would argue that Surkov’s zenith actually came when Medvedev was President. Pomerantsev’s book is good but again it doesn’t seem to realise the main purpose of the Russian government, which is to enrich itself. Thus, the ones that bring in most cash are the most powerful. Corruption is not a problem of the Russian system, it is the Russian system.

This guy built/repaired audio equipment and built special effects touring with rock band Kiss.
Specializes today in restoring expensive cars in Connecticut.

His brother Augusten Burroughs' memoir "Running with Scissors" is well-known also.

just finished
Sun Also Rises (Ernest Hemingway) &
Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf (Edward Albee)

Now onto
And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini
who also wrote - A Thousand Splendid Suns (awesome book), and Kite Runner (another amazing book).

looking forward to delving into this one by him.

next after this, it will be
The Sirens of Titan (Kurt Vonnegut)

Khaled Hosseini will provide an emotional (and probably somewhat romantic) fiction tale, before I delve into Vonnegut.

Which is well needed after the last 2 books.

The Sun Also Rises, was only just decent.
It is only popular because of the time that it was written; 1920's
and his characters (a group of artists) act in opposition to what would be expected at that time. One of the main characters, is a female who is a bit of a swinger.
So it was banned.

Reading it now though, it wasn't overly shocking or anything (in this day of age). A lot of dialogue.

eta - Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolg - is basically a play. It was decent. It's about revealing truth among couples

Your age and appearance has nothing to do with your capacity to enjoy books from multiple genres.

What type of book do you normally like reading?

I finally learned to really read at age 19 when at college and a friend lent me a science fiction novel. I think it was written by Robert Heinlein, one of the very best sci-fi writers of all time. My point being I found a book style/genre that I really really liked! Up until then I only thought of sci-fi stories as being limited to cheesy aliens taking over our world.

Good luck finding something you love. There is tons of different books, and lots of them at the library.
