Are these the fur farm mink that the animal activists let loose on the unsuspecting British small mammal population?

I just found out that our short-tailed weasel and the British stoat are the same species - Mustela erminea. I had thought they were different.

arctic circle species i guess, like moose and reindeer. Can withstand the cold enough that the populations never completely split. What others can you think of?

Well the stoats took advantage of the temporary Northern land route from Siberia 500,000 years ago to get here, so - cheating?

I'm feeling pretty saddened at the moment. I tried feeding the spider a baby 'pinky' mouse. They are tiny little things, just born - eyes closed. The spider hovered over it for about an hour and a half, didn't go for it. Now, it's just lying there, possibly dead. Ugh. Feel awful for it.

I don't know how people manage to have snakes, having to feed them full sized rats.

Actually, fuck, I just saw it move again. I don't know what to do.

Does it have to be alive to feed the spider?

I dunno, it may not be rational but I'd rather not have to feed my pet a live other animal that could also be a pet, because people do have pet mice.

Not trying to make you feel worse.

I recommend killing it quickly if the spider is not interested.

I know. I usually go for gut loaded crickets.. but was at a reptile shop tonight so thought I'd try this. I've tried dead before and she didnt go for it.

It's out of the terrarium. Tried feeding it with a paint brush. Its sleeping now (erm I think) .. curled up like a cat. :/

Ya, I saw on another site it was a 75% chance failure rate. I did the thing where you take a q-tip and stimulate it's bowels.

At least this is making me feel less bad.

Actually, about just over 10 years ago, we found a pinky mouse in a toolbox at work, so I took it home and tried to keep it alive. It was alive for about 5 days or so. Then, when I was feeding it, I saw it take a huge deep breath, and then .. die. Went to sleep shortly after that (I was working night shifts at the time), and had nightmares about a mouse coming back to haunt me.

I didn't stimulate the bowels at the time though. Didn't really have as much access to the internet, as we have now.

Well. Now you either know this is not a feeding option you care to use and another mouse ghostie to haunt you or you have a pet mouse.
