The brolga reminds me of sandhill cranes:

Aha!

Both are very tall birds. I rarely see sandhill cranes in my area, just once every few years. In other parts of the province they're more common.

Here is a picture I’ve wanted to take for a long time: Uluru in Australia (also known as Ayers Rock). This is a sacred site, and a striking landscape. Not easy to spot from the International Space Station, but as the Sun went down, we got lucky! https://flic.kr/p/Qrs4hD

Curious that its shadow, from this vantage point, looks more like the silhouettes we are most familiar with than the rock itself.

the Uluru lookout where the most familiar photos are taken is north of the rock so in the bottom half of the photo. the Mutitjulu aboriginal settlement is upper left of the picture and the Yulara resort lies just below the bottom of the photo

in other words the photo is upside-down to a normal map, with north at the bottom and south at the top

My first trip to oz in 89 I climbed it before sunrise and had to wait a while before there was someone else up there to snap me. Must've forgotten my selfie stick. Watched the coaches arriving as I descended. Fuck it was busy. Not supposed to climb it any more.

I will be getting an older SLR camera with lenses (film not digital) in a barter for some editing and rewriting services (anything above the cost of what she would have sold the camera and lenses for, she will pay in cash). I am really jazzed about getting back into photography again.

I thought about getting another film camera, but film and developing is so expensive compared to keeping everything digital.

Well this is basically free pretty much for some time editing and rewriting so its doable for now, get some practice in and always have them develop it digitally instead of as physical photographs. Down the road, after I get some good practice in, I will pay for a digital SLR and lenses.
