Well those don't need to be dripped.

I have two that aren't connected to the house. They are near the house, but the plumbing for them is not part of the house plumbing. They are the Yard Plumbing. The main line into the house branches right before the house and has a feed to the front and back yards. This was originally for sprinkler systems, but since they were never installed, the lines were brought up out of the ground with galvanized steel and capped with a faucet. So they are just freestanding faucets.

I have three "house faucets" that are part of the house plumbing. One in the front, one in back, and one in the garage. I never drip those.

One more day and night of being below freezing. This is crazy shit for Texas.

We're expecting a storm with 120kmh winds on Thursday. And 20+ cm of snow. I'm guessing we'll almost certainly lose power for a significant period.

Roger that, and my sympathies to you and Bor.

I had to drip my 1917 wood framed, central Florida house's away-from-house faucet when temps got below 20F. One year
more than 50% of Florida's citrus crop got wiped out by
sub-17F temps

A snowcane!

I have been putting extra food out for the creatures. It has been so cold at night they are coming to eat in at twilight.

The raccoon and the possum peacefully shared what I put out last night.

I opened my garage a bit for the tomcats. My neighbor opened his greenhouse too.

From Sunday night at 7pm to Wednesday at noon. This is a really long freeze for us. It will affect the citrus in the valley too. And the avocados.

Mr. b went and bought a newer bigger generator today. Old one was leaking gas and acting up some, so now we have a brand new Generac 5000 watt portable. It will run fridge, freezer, water pump, lights, computers, television with ease, and other appliances, including electric heaters, if necessary.

This takes a lot of the anxiety out of big storms that knock out power. Even people who can't afford one know lots of friends and neighbours who will help them get through a long outage by storing their food, keeping them warm, maybe cooking or charging devices, offering wifi etc.

I wanna whine a little about our privatized damn power company - it used to be a crown corp., owned by the province. The infrastructure then was maintained and inspected regularly. Power outages were rare and brief, even in rural areas. After privatization, many maintenance and inspection workers were laid off. Old infrastructure doesn't get replaced until it fails. They now charge to trim trees threatening power lines on your property. We have more and longer power outages, in part because they don't have the available employees. Rates go up often.

It is pretty stupid to privatize things that have no competition. I really don't get how anyone who even read any economic texts thinks that it is a good idea to privatize monopolies.

But what gets me angry is the "fake" competition scams they run to justify privatization. You have one electric provider that owns all the infrastructure, but they privatize it and then sell off the Billing and Collecting to other companies. This is supposed to resemble competition, but since the Billing and Collecting companies are just paying the now private monopoly for the power they are selling to the public, all you have done is add another layer of middlemen to siphon profits with a "fake" appearance of multiple providers. See Dallas.

Things like water, power, and communication would benefit more from economies of scale than they do from the efficiency bonus of competition, given that in most places they are de facto monopolies.

That's just math and logic folks.

Now they're talking about rain instead. (Followed by a deep freeze on Friday.)

It snowed on my beach condo in South Carolina today. No, it wasn't ash from a North Korean nuclear blast like some residents thought. Didn't keep them from buying up all the milk and bread in a 100 mile radius and heading to underground shelters.

Forgive my ignorance spruce.
Why would North Carolina be the first strike in a nuclear war?
